Interview Got You Nervous? Try the STAR Method!
Ever get nervous before an interview because you have no idea what to say and you’re scared you’ll suddenly go blank? Especially for Gen Z, interviews can sometimes feel like the ultimate nightmare. But seriously, we’ve all been there, right? 😭
Hey, don’t get stressed too much if you’re not sure how to answer or find it difficult to explain your experience clearly. There’s actually a simple way to help you structure your answers: the STAR Method.
So, what exactly is the STAR Method?
The STAR Method is a simple way to answer interview questions in a more structured way. Instead of telling a story that goes everywhere, you can organize your answer into 4 parts: Situation, Task, Action, and Result.
S — Situation
Start by explaining the situation. What were you dealing with at the time? It could be a project, an organization problem, a university assignment, or an internship experience.
T — Task
Next, explain your responsibility in that situation. What were you expected to do?
A — Action
Now, this is the important part! Explain what you did to solve the problem or handle the situation. Don’t just say, “We did...” Focus more on your contribution and what actions you personally took.
R — Result
Lastly, what was the result? You can talk about a goal you achieved, a problem you solved, or something you learned from the experience.
Still going blank during interviews? The STAR Method can help you share your experiences in a clearer and more structured way.
